Prince of Wales Hospital announces COVID-19 patients passed away

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The spokesperson for the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH) today (August 29) announced that two patients confirmed with COVID-19 infection passed away last night (August 28) and this afternoon respectively.

     A 63-year-old male patient (case number: 2716) with chronic disease was admitted to PWH on July 25 due to elbow injury and fever, and was later tested positive for COVID-19. After treatment, the patient was tested negative for COVID-19 and was released from isolation order by the Department of Health on August 24. The patient required mechanical ventilation due to respiratory failure and continued to stay at the Intensive Care Unit for treatment. His condition continued to deteriorate and he eventually succumbed at 8.15pm yesterday.

     Another 98-year-old female patient (case number: 4565) with chronic disease was admitted to PWH on August 17 due to fever and low blood oxygen. She was later tested positive for COVID-19 and her condition continued to deteriorate and she eventually succumbed at 1.02pm today.

     The hospital is saddened about the passing away of the two patients and will offer necessary assistance to their families.

     Including the above two patients, 86 COVID-19 patients have passed away in public hospitals so far.
