HAD to provide food packs for elderly in need
*********************************************

In view of the severity of the epidemic, the Chief Executive has instructed the Home Affairs Department (HAD) to arrange provision of food packs for elderly singletons and families of elderly doubletons in need.

The HAD said today (July 19) that in the past two days, about 1 500 food packs have been provided to the elderly living in Tsz Ching Estate in Tsz Wan Shan and Choi Fai Estate in Ngau Chi Wan in the Wong Tai Sin District through Lok Sin Tong. Lok Sin Tong has also prepared 5 000 food packs for distribution to public housing estates with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kowloon East. The HAD will step up collaboration with other charities to provide food packs for the elderly living in the public housing estates in Kowloon East.

The HAD understands that many elderly singletons are currently very anxious about the situation and calls on them not to be too worried. The department will provide food packs and assistance to them as soon as possible so that they can fight the virus with peace of mind.

The HAD also thanked the Housing Department, Lok Sin Tong and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals for their great support and assistance in deploying manpower within a short period of time to distribute food packs for the HAD.

Elderly people living in Kowloon East public housing estates in need of food packs may call Lok Sin Tong at 5485 1633 or 5643 2936.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government strongly believes that with its collaboration with different sectors of the society to fight against the epidemic, Hong Kong will surely overcome this acute challenge.
