North District Hospital announces a GOPC staff member confirmed of COVID-19 infection

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     Regarding a staff member of Shek Wu Hui Jockey Club General Out-patient Clinic being confirmed with COVID-19 infection, the North District Hospital spokesperson today (April 8) announced the following:

     A 57-year-old operation assistant in the clinic has developed cough, sore throat but without fever since April 3. She had no travel history in the previous 14 days and has no known contact with confirmed cases of COVID-19. The staff member was tested for COVID-19 with deep throat saliva on April 7 and test result available in the evening has confirmed that she has tested positive to the virus. She is currently receiving treatment in isolation in the North District Hospital and is in stable condition.

     She is mainly responsible for cleansing duties in the clinic and has been wearing personal protective equipment during work. The clinic has no records of handling patients with confirmed COVID-19 so far.

     The clinic is tracing the close contacts of the staff member with the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health to follow up on the necessary tests and quarantine arrangements. The clinic will closely monitor the health of all staff members.

     The clinic will be temporarily closed for a thorough disinfection today (April 8). Clinic staff will contact the patients who have made an appointment and the patients will be arranged to visit the Fanling Family Medicine Centre in the same district.
