Appointment of members to Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board announced

     The Government today (April 3) announced the appointment of one new non-official member as well as the re-appointment of 12 incumbent non-official members and eight institutional members to the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMPB) with effect from April 1, 2020.

     The new member, Mr Lawrence Shum Kai-shing, is the Managing Director of a container terminal operator company.  He is appointed for a two-year term until March 31, 2022.

     As well, 12 incumbent members are re-appointed. Among them, Mr Angad Banga, Ms Agnes Choi Heung-kwan, Mr Patrick Fong Yiu-fai, Miss Veronica Fung Kit-ming, Mr Wellington Koo Tse-hau, Mr Kwok Kwok-chuen, Mr Kenneth Lam Sze-ken, Miss Rosita Lau Sui-yee, Mr Timothy Lee Kwok-lam, Mr Clarence Leung Ka-fai and Mr Li Lian-jun are appointed for a two-year term until March 31, 2022, while Mr Frankie Yick Chi-ming is appointed for nine months until 31 December, 2020. The eight institutional members, namely the Hong Kong Container Terminal Operators Association, the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association, the Hong Kong Sea Transport and Logistics Association, the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, the Hong Kong Shippers' Council, the Institute of Seatransport, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Vocational Training Council are also re-‍appointed for a two-year term until March 31, 2022.
 
     The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Frank Chan Fan, welcomed Mr Lawrence Shum as the new member and thanked the outgoing members, namely Mr Andy Tung Lieh-cheung, Miss Elsa Yeung Mei-fong and Mr Gerry Yim Lui-fai for their valuable contributions to the HKMPB and the development of maritime industry in Hong Kong.

     Mr Chan said, "Since its establishment, the HKMPB has been working seamlessly with the industry to introduce various measures in developing high value-added maritime services, fostering maritime manpower training and strengthening promotions. The measures are in good progress. Despite the challenges ahead, we will continue to join hands with the members of the new term in a bid to consolidate Hong Kong’s status as an international maritime centre."

     The HKMPB was established in 2016 to provide a high-level platform for setting the long-term development directions of port and maritime services and the related work in manpower training and promotions with a view to enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness and status in the international maritime arena.
