HKETO Jakarta hosts Chinese New Year reception in Jakarta (with photos)

     The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Jakarta (HKETO Jakarta) hosted a Chinese New Year reception in Jakarta, Indonesia, last night (February 11) with Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. 

     Speaking at the reception, the Director-General of HKETO Jakarta, Mr Law Kin-wai, said the novel coronavirus outbreak is presenting great challenges across the world, including in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's emphases are responding promptly, staying alert to the situation and working in an open and transparent manner so as to protect public health. He elaborated on various measures being taken by the Government in a comprehensive and co-ordinated approach to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.   

     On the relationship between Hong Kong and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Mr Law said Hong Kong benefits from the advantages of "one country, two systems", an excellent environment for doing business, and quality professional services.  The Hong Kong and ASEAN Free Trade Agreement and Investment Agreement, the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development also present huge development potential. He encouraged Indonesian business people to make the most out of the advantages and opportunities that Hong Kong offers.

     The event was attended by the Chinese Ambassador to ASEAN, Mr Deng Xijun; the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Indonesia, Ms Chen Yun; the Regional Director of Southeast Asia and South Asia of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Mr Peter Wong; and senior members of the diplomatic corps, sharing the occasion together with around 140 other guests from the Indonesian political and business circles, academia, media and community groups.  

     HKETO Jakarta also hosted a spring dinner at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei in January and plans to host similar events in other ASEAN countries under its purview.
