Employer and director fined for violation of safety legislation

     Wai Kee Machinery Transportation Company Limited and the company's director were fined $65,000 and $7,000 respectively at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (November 5) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Loadshifting Machinery) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on April 9, 2019 at a warehouse in Yuen Long. While the director was stowing machine components into a container by a fork-lift truck, the machine components struck against a worker who was assisting the work. The worker was sent to hospital and passed away on the same day.
