Life Planning Education Conference 2019 held today

     The Career Planning and Management: From Career Assessment to Career Guidance - Life Planning Education Conference 2019 was held by the Education Bureau (EDB) today (November 1), during which about 500 education practitioners and representatives of partner organisations shared their experiences in assisting students to equip themselves for further studies and career development.

     Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference, the Permanent Secretary for Education, Mrs Ingrid Yeung, said that the EDB is committed to promoting life planning education and has been strengthening support for schools with additional resources in recent years with a view to helping students better understand their interests, abilities and aspirations.  
      
     Schools have also attached more importance to life planning education, with an increase in the number and diversity of related educational activities which showed that life planning education is gaining recognition among teachers, students and parents.
      
     Moreover, various business entities, professional bodies and non-governmental organisations have worked in close partnership with the EDB under the Business-School Partnership Programme to provide a wide range of career exploration activities to students to help them understand more about different industries and better prepare them for further studies and work. Since the 2014/15 school year, more than 350 business partners have joined the programme, which has organised over 5 000 activities, benefiting some 1 150 000 students.
      
     The conference was held at the Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre. The keynote speakers included the Director of Laboratory and Programme for Creativity and Talent Development Centre for Advancement in Inclusive and Special Education, Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong, Dr Yuen Man-tak; the Dean of Students and Head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, HKCT Institute of Higher Education, Professor Chui Yat-hung; and the Honorary Professional Consultant of Department of Educational Administration and Policy, Faculty of Education, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Dr Cheung Man-biu. A number of sharing sessions were arranged in the afternoon for participants to share their experiences.    
      
     Professionals and scholars shared their views on the utilisation of career assessment tools and career guidance with education practitioners. By enhancing the professional capacity of education practitioners, students could be better assisted in making informed choices on further studies and work, setting personal goals and planning for the future.
