LegCo President's statement on retirement announcement of Chief Justice of Court of Final Appeal

The President of the Legislative Council (LegCo), Mr Andrew Leung, said today (October 31) that he respected the decision of the Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal, Mr Geoffrey Ma Tao-li, to retire in 2021 and expressed gratitude for his invaluable contribution in upholding the rule of law and safeguarding judicial independence in Hong Kong.
Mr Leung thanked the Chief Justice for his willingness to engage regularly with LegCo Members on issues relating to the administration of justice, and applauded his exemplary record in attracting distinguished common law jurists to serve the Judiciary in Hong Kong.
Mr Leung wished the Chief Justice a long and happy retirement following his outstanding service spanning over twenty years in Hong Kong.
