Free exhibition at Kowloon Park to introduce Hong Kong's biodiversity (with photos)
***********************************************************************************
To raise public interest in horticulture and enhance awareness of greening, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will hold a horticultural education exhibition entitled "Hong Kong Biodiversity" and related activities this weekend (November 2 and 3) from 10am to 4pm at the Arcade of Kowloon Park. Admission is free.

Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth at all levels, from plants, animals and microorganisms and genetic differences within species to the various ecosystems on land and at sea. Each life form has its role to play in maintaining the balance of habitats.

With its location in the sub-tropics, mountainous landscape and distinct seasons as well as various habitats such as highland and lowland forests, shrub forests, rivers, freshwater wetlands, sea and urban parks, Hong Kong makes an ideal home for many wild animals despite having a small land area of 1 100 square kilometres.

Descriptive display panels will enable members of the public to learn more about the biodiversity in Hong Kong such as the natural habitats and value of fung shui woods, wetlands and mangroves. They will also introduce how the facilities managed by the LCSD can help enhance the city's biodiversity and describe the department's role in promoting greening and biodiversity.

Game stalls will be set up and visitors will also be able to enjoy the fun of pot planting under the guidance of horticulture instructors.

Two talks in Cantonese entitled "The Wild Beauty in the City" and "Flora Conservation in Hong Kong" will be held at the Secondary Hall of Kowloon Park Sports Centre. Tickets for free admission are now being distributed at the Green Education and Resource Centre in Kowloon Park.

     For enquiries, please call 2723 6042 or 2723 6767 or visit www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/green/gerc/activities/exhibitions.html.
