Government strongly condemns illegal acts of rioters
****************************************************
Protesters participated in unauthorised assemblies in a number of districts in Kowloon today (October 27), where rioters once again took the opportunity to go on a rampage and commit arson in various places, seriously undermining social order and jeopardising people's lives and property. The Government strongly condemns rioters' acts.

Protesters taking part in unauthorised assemblies in various districts in Kowloon in the afternoon today blocked a number of thoroughfares, seriously disrupting traffic. There were also attacks on police officers. From the evening onwards, some masked rioters assaulted members of the public who held different views, set fires to burn shops and entrances of a number of MTR stations, and hurled petrol bombs at government office building, police station and police officers, posing a serious threat to the safety of members of the public and police officers at the scene. The Police will strictly enforce the law to stop the illegal acts and bring offenders to justice to restore public order as soon as possible.

A Government spokesman once again appeals to protesters not to fall foul of the law and members of the public are advised to stay away from where the rioters are to protect their personal safety.
