Hong Kong Arts Development Council nomination exercise voting figures announced

     The polling for the nomination exercise of representatives of arts interests for the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) in 2019 for the last three consecutive days ended at 9pm today (October 22). A total of 3,184 voters cast their votes, representing a turnout rate of 46.5 per cent.

     Ballot tallying is underway at the counting station in Mong Kok Community Hall, L2, Mong Kok Complex, 557 Shanghai Street, Mong Kok. The final voting results will be announced once available.

     The list of nominated representatives will be submitted to the Chief Executive for consideration of appointment as members of the HKADC. Members of the HKADC will assist the Council in planning, promotion and support of the development of the arts in Hong Kong. The new term will start on January 1, 2020.

     Cross-arts interest voting was adopted again this year. Voters from the 10 arts interests were able to cast votes for candidates standing for nomination in the seven contested arts interests for this year's nomination exercise, namely, Arts Education, Drama, Film Arts, Literary Arts, Music, Visual Arts and Chinese Opera (Xiqu).

     The HKADC is a statutory body set up to promote the development of arts in Hong Kong. The term of office of its current members, including representatives of 10 arts interests, will expire on December 31, 2019. The HKADC is conducting the nomination exercise to nominate representatives of arts interests for the Chief Executive's consideration for appointment as members of the HKADC for the next term.
