Police offer apology for accidentally spraying coloured water at Kowloon Mosque (with photos)

     Riotous situation again broke out in a number of districts in Kowloon yesterday (October 20). Rioters extensively set fire and vandalised in multiple locations, seriously endangering public safety. In response to the situation, Police deployed a Specialised Crowd Management Vehicle to disperse the rioters in the vicinity of Nathan Road. During the operation, coloured water was accidentally sprayed at the Kowloon Mosque.
 
     Police are very concerned about the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Lo Wai-chung, accompanied the Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, to visit the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre this morning (October 21). In a meeting with representatives of Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong and other leaders of local Muslim community, Police clarified the operation and offered apology for the impact arising from the operation.
 
     The District Commanders of various Police Districts also proactively engaged local Muslim community today to clarify the incident, reassuring them Police never have an intent to offend any religious bodies.  
 
     Mr Lo remarked that the local Muslim community is peaceful and law-abiding, a close relation has long been maintained between Police and the Kowloon Mosque as well as the local Muslim community. Police respect religious freedom all along and will spare no effort in protecting all religious premises. Police will also continue to join hands with relevant stakeholders in combating crimes.
