Police investigate blackmail cases involving merchants

Since early October, Police received four reports from different merchants that they received messages by fax or email since late September, coercing them to fund violent protests by Bitcoin. The merchants were threatened to comply or their shops would be wrecked.

Police accord high priority to such cases and are carrying out active investigations. Any members of the public or merchants who have any information to offer; or have received relevant blackmailing or intimidating messages, please contact Police on 5975 3133 or email to appeal@police.gov.hk.
