HAD clarifies rumours again

     In response to rumours re-circulating on mobile instant messaging applications claiming that officials from Home Affairs will visit the public with official letters to verify the validity of their personal identification documents in preparation for the upcoming election, a Home Affairs Department (HAD) spokesperson today (October 8) again clarified that this is absolutely untrue.

     The HAD reminded the public to remain vigilant to fraudulent phone calls and correspondence claiming to be from the HAD office. The department will not normally make phone calls or write to members of the public to ask for personal information.

     The HAD's hotline is operated by a central telephone system, and the hotline number 2835 2500 will not be displayed for calls from the department. If there is any doubt, please contact HAD staff for verification or call the Hong Kong Police Anti-Deception Coordination Centre 24-hour Anti-Scam Helpline 18222 for enquiry.
