Police strongly condemn violent and vandalistic acts in various districts

A large group of masked rioters repeatedly committed destructive acts extensively and blocking roads in various districts in Hong Kong yesterday (October 7). Police express severe condemnation against rioters.

Starting from around 8pm, a large group of masked rioters participated in unlawful assemblies at multiple locations, including Mong Kok, Wong Tai Sin, Tai Po, Sha Tin, Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan, Yuen Long, Tai Koo and Tseung Kwan O. Rioters set up barricades, set fire to miscellaneous objects and dug up bricks from the pavements to block major roads.

Besides, rioters continued to commit destructive acts extensively in various districts. They vandalised shopping malls, shops, MTR station facilities including turnstile and ticket machines and also damaged traffic lights. Their acts were completely lawless.

Since the situation deteriorated rapidly, Police conducted dispersal operation with appropriate force, including tear gases, rubber bullets, bean bag rounds and 40mm react round to stop the violent acts of the protestors.

At around 9pm, during Police’s dispersal operation in Tseung Kwan O, some rioters suddenly dropped a bicycle from height, hitting an officer’s head. The officer fell onto the ground and was escorted to the hospital by his colleagues. He sustained injuries to his head and neck. Police strongly condemn the life-threatening and violent acts of rioters.

Police strongly condemns the rioters' violent and vandalistic acts which completely disregard law and order. Police reiterate that no violent behavior will be tolerated. Police will continue to take resolute enforcement action so as to safeguard the city’s public safety and bring all lawbreakers to justice.
