Contractor fined for violation of safety legislation

     Hong Kong Construction (General Builders) Limited was fined $116,000 at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (September 26) for violation of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations and the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Safety Management) Regulation. The prosecutions were launched by the Labour Department.

     The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on July 19, 2018, at a building construction site in Tsim Sha Tsui. While a worker was climbing a bamboo scaffold inside a lift shaft, he lost his balance and fell a distance of about 46 metres to the bottom of the lift shaft. He sustained severe bodily injuries and passed away.
