EMSD receives another award from Association of Energy Engineers in US (with photo)
***********************************************************************************
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) received on September 24 (Washington, DC, time) from the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) the Regional Institutional Energy Management Award for the Asia-Pacific region, in recognition of the department's outstanding performance in developing, organising, managing and implementing its comprehensive energy management programme. This is the second time the EMSD has received the award, having previously been awarded in 2017.

Since the establishment of the Energy Efficiency Office (EEO) in 1994, the EMSD has been committed to promoting energy saving and carbon emission reduction in Hong Kong. With the joint effort by the EMSD and various sectors, the energy intensity of Hong Kong has decreased by 31 per cent over the past decade or so, a performance ranked among the best in the member economies of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.

The Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services, Mr Alfred Sit, said after the award presentation ceremony in Washington, DC, that receiving again this important award at the crucial moment of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the EEO was highly meaningful to the department.

"This award not only recognises the department's performance, but also reminds us to continue with our efforts in promoting various proposals for enhancing energy efficiency with creativity and technology in order to achieve our energy-saving targets," he said.

This year, some other institutions in Hong Kong also received energy-saving awards from the AEE. Among them, the retro-commissioning energy management project implemented by the Hospital Authority and CLP Power Hong Kong Limited and supported by the Hong Kong Green Building Council was given the Best Regional Energy Project of the Year Award. The EMSD welcomes more organisations to participate in energy saving and carbon emission reduction in Hong Kong to jointly create a sustainable environment.
