EMSD is deeply concerned about derailment incident of MTR East Rail Line

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) is deeply concerned about the serious incident involving derailment of an MTR East Rail Line train yesterday (September 17). It will conduct an independent, thorough and in-depth investigation, and seek advice from overseas experts. The EMSD will examine various factors, including mechanical parts of the train, the rail and associated devices, as well as any obstruction by foreign objects.

Regarding the investigation on obstruction by foreign objects, the EMSD has not found any foreign object at the concerned section of the rail track so far. Currently, rectification works are still being conducted at Platform 1 of Hung Hom Station. The EMSD will monitor the whole rectification and recovery works carried out by the MTR Corporation and collect evidence on site.
