Correctional officer stops remand person in custody committing self-harm
************************************************************************
A Correctional Services officer stopped a female remand person in custody committing self-harm at Tai Lam Centre for Women yesterday (September 9).

At 11.43pm, the 34-year-old person in custody was found hitting her head against the grille bars inside the cell of the institution hospital. An officer immediately ordered her to stop the act and called for reinforcement. The person in custody was found conscious. Upon receiving treatment at the institution hospital, she was subsequently referred to a public hospital for further examination and treatment. A clinical psychologist of the department will follow up on the case.

A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent persons in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."

The person in custody was remanded for the offence of theft in September 2019.
