******************************************************************************************
An opening ceremony for "Revitalisation of the Rear Portion of the Cattle Depot" under the Kowloon City District Signature Project Scheme (SPS) - Cattle Depot Art Park was held today (September 8), marking the completion and commissioning of the project.

The Government earmarked a provision of $100 million for each District Council to implement one or two large-scale and sustainable projects to address local needs under the SPS for enhancing district administration. The Kowloon City District Council (KCDC) endorsed the "Revitalisation of the Rear Portion of the Cattle Depot" project in response to the community's demand for recreational space and venues for arts and cultural activities.

The ex-Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Depot, commonly known as the Cattle Depot, is a Grade 2 historic building. The project revitalised the rear portion of the Cattle Depot into Cattle Depot Art Park, which is themed on arts and culture and is open for public use, so as to promote community characteristics and raise public awareness on cultural conservation. In the revitalisation process, the project team preserved elements with special features in-situ as far as possible in order to conserve the heritage value of the rear portion of the Cattle Depot.

Located at San Shan Road, To Kwa Wan, the Cattle Depot Art Park occupies 6 000 square metres in area and inherits elements of its history as a cattle depot. The facilities include rain shelters with benches, an amenity lawn area, and ancillary facilities such as public toilets and a baby-care room.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, said the Cattle Depot Art Park would create synergy with the Cattle Depot Artists Village to become a "check-in" hot spot, providing Kowloon City District with a new venue for promoting community cultural and arts activities.

Other officiating guests of the ceremony included the Chairman of the KCDC, Mr Pun Kwok-wah; the Acting Director of Home Affairs, Miss Charmaine Wong; the Director of Architectural Services, Mrs Sylvia Lam; the Acting Deputy Director of Leisure and Cultural Services (Leisure Services), Mrs Doris Fok; the District Officer (Kowloon City), Mr Franco Kwok; and the Chairman of the Leisure and District Facilities Management Committee under the KCDC, Mr Cheung Yan-hong.
