Fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin

     Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Sha Tin last night (April 22) in which a 40-year-old man died.

     At about 8.40pm, a taxi driven by a 58-year-old man was travelling along Fo Tan Road towards Sha Tin, while a private bus driven by a 64-year-old man was travelling along Tai Chung Kiu Road towards Tai Wai. When approaching the junction of Tai Chung Kiu Road and Sha Tin Road, the two vehicles reportedly collided.

     The 40-year-old male taxi passenger was found collapsed without superficial injury inside the taxi compartment and was rushed to Prince of Wales Hospital in unconscious state. He was certified dead at 9.22pm. Sustaining injuries to his head and chest, the taxi driver was sent to Prince of Wales Hospital in conscious state. The private bus driver was not injured.

     The private bus driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.

     Investigation by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories South is underway.
