Young musicians from Hong Kong, Macao and Guangzhou to perform "Cantonese Music Assembly - Together We Make New Sounds" concerts

     Young musicians from Hong Kong, Macao and Guangzhou will jointly give two concerts entitled "Cantonese Music Assembly – Together We Make New Sounds" in March.
 
     They will be joined by Yu Lefu, Chan Pik-sum, Zhang Yueru, Wong Lok-ting, Ricky Yeung Wai-kit, Sha Jingshan, Bryan Lai, Yanki Ma, Guo Peili, Tong Shaomin, Chen Zhiwei, Tan Cong and Liang Jia. The concerts are being presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department as part of its Guangdong Music Series.
 
     Two highly popular pieces, "Stepping High" and "Thunder in a Drought", have been arranged for gaohu ensemble and will be performed jointly by musicians from Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao. Several classics and adapted Cantonese music, like "Streaks of Tears and Threefold Sorrows" for yehu and ensemble, will be included in the programme as well. Cantonese music composed during the Cultural Revolution years in the 1960s up to more recent times by composers from Guangdong and Hong Kong, such as "Weaving a Rainbow Miles Long", "Reflection of the Moon on White Swan Lake", "Playing Qin in Liwan", "An Inebriated Tune", "The Girl from Lai Village", "Desolate Petals on the Guileless Water" and "Speeding Across the Sky", will also be performed.
 
     Apart from upholding the spirit of traditional Cantonese music, many of the performers will premiere their original compositions. They include "Day Lilies", "Cantonese Bamboo", "Bright Moonlight of the Seventeenth", "Che Gong Fan Liu", "Barra Song", "Sunset Clouds in Autumn", "Endless Longing" and "The Tanka Boat Song".
 
     The first performance will be staged at 8pm on March 29 (Friday) at the Theatre of the Yau Ma Tei Theatre. The second performance will be staged at 8pm on March 30 (Saturday) at the Theatre of Sheung Wan Civic Centre. Tickets for the two concerts are priced at $180 and $300.
