Appointment of Chairman of Council of Hong Kong Polytechnic University

     The Government today (December 14) announced that the Chief Executive has appointed Dr Lam Tai-fai as Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a term of three years with effect from January 1, 2019.

     The Acting Secretary for Education, Dr Choi Yuk-lin, welcomed Dr Lam's appointment as the PolyU Council Chairman.

     "Dr Lam is committed to public and community service, and has in particular rendered significant contributions to youth development in Hong Kong. On the post-secondary education front, apart from the PolyU Council and Court, he had also served the Court of the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Vocational Training Council. Dr Lam has been appointed as Deputy Chairman of the PolyU Council since January 2016. He has offered wise counsel on the management and strategic development of PolyU with vision and foresight. I am confident that PolyU will continue to scale new heights with Dr Lam at the helm," Dr Choi said.

     Dr Choi also paid tribute to Mr Ignatius Chan Tze-ching, the outgoing PolyU Council Chairman, for his contribution to the development of PolyU during his chairmanship. She said, "Mr Chan has served PolyU for nearly 10 years. During his tenure as the Council Chairman, PolyU has adhered to its tradition of equal emphasis on application and research. PolyU has been actively promoting the development of education and scientific research by establishing a network of co-operation with its global counterparts. Our sincere gratitude goes to Mr Chan for his dedication to higher education matters and his outstanding leadership at PolyU."
