******************************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Underwater Photo and Video Competition 2018, jointly organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and Hong Kong Underwater Association, concluded successfully today (November 10) with an award presentation.

The Hong Kong Underwater Photo and Video Competition has been held since 2012, making this the seventh edition. A total of 404 entries were received this year. Themed on marine ecology, habitats or marine life in Hong Kong waters, all photos were taken during the period from September 18, 2017 to September 16, 2018.

"The entries received this year fully showcased the beauty of marine habitats and amazing species in Hong Kong waters, and helped raise public awareness of the importance of marine conservation," an AFCD spokesman said.

The competition is composed of open group and student group. The open group can participate in photo competition and video competition. There were two categories in the photo competition, namely the Macro & Close-up Category, and the Standard & Wide Angle Category. For the open group, in addition to champions, runners-up and outstanding awards in the photo competition, there were three special prizes for junior underwater photographers presented by the judging panel, to encourage less experienced underwater photographers to participate. For the student group in the photo competition, three special prizes for student underwater photographers were given, in order to encourage their appreciation and protection of Hong Kong's marine ecology and environment. The video competition category for the open group also presented the award of "Underwater Videographer of the Year" to an outstanding contestant.
