CS visits Wan Chai (with photos)

Accompanied by the District Officer (Wan Chai), Mr Rick Chan, and the Chairman of the Wan Chai District Council (WCDC), Mr Stephen Ng, Mr Cheung observed a summer activity organised by Wan Chai Teen Horizons of the Wan Chai District Office. He also chatted with young participants and carefully listened their views on Hong Kong’s future. Wan Chai Teen Horizons aims to engage young people of the district. It organises different types of training programmes and activities to nurture young people into future leaders with a sense of responsibility to serve the society.
He stressed that youth development was one of the priority policy areas of the current-term Government which strives to give young people more support and create room for them to realise their potential. The Youth Development Commission under his chairmanship would enhance policy co-ordination within the Government to enable more holistic and effective examination of and discussion on issues of concern to young people.
Mr Cheung then visited the Hong Kong Alzheimer's Disease Association Jean Wei Centre where he chatted with some elderly people with mild or moderate dementia. He also toured its treatment facilities to gain a better understanding of the services and training provided by the Centre such as cognitive training and reminiscence therapy.
Mr Cheung said that the Government was committed to strengthening support for persons suffering from dementia. This includes regularising the Dementia Community Support Scheme and extending it to all 41 district elderly community centres to provide cross-sector and multidisciplinary support services through a medical-social collaboration model to elderly with mild or moderate dementia and their carers.
Mr Cheung concluded the visit by meeting WCDC members and exchanged views with them on various district and community issues.
