***************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation:

The final competition and award presentation ceremony of the Youth Programme co-organised by the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) and the Roundtable Education and Global Development Unit will be held at 12.30pm on May 12 (Saturday) at Theatre 3, 1/F, Hong Kong Productivity Council Building, 78 Tat Chee Avenue, Kowloon. The Chairman of the HKCPEC, Professor Matthew Lee, will officiate at the ceremony.

The HKCPEC Youth Programme aims at advancing understanding among the youth community on Hong Kong's role and contribution to trade and economic development and co-operation in the Asia-Pacific region, and increasing their knowledge, developing their analytical skills and encouraging their strategic thinking in the process of the participation.

The theme of this year's Youth Programme is "I-Generation 1104: The Vision of Hong Kong in the Asia Pacific Region in Ten Years". Participating students from senior secondary schools in Hong Kong took part in a series of nurturing activities and a project study competition, including seminars, workshops, visits and the Asia-Pacific Youth Vision Camp.

For the final competition, 18 teams have been selected to demonstrate their ideas and thinking on the project study through different means of presentation. Participants have also produced video clips to showcase their knowledge and thinking on social media.

Five awards will be presented to winning teams at the ceremony. Details of the programme will be uploaded to the HKCPEC's website at www.hkcpec.org after the ceremony.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the ceremony. Those interested in attending are invited to enrol with the HKCPEC Secretariat by 5pm on May 10 (Thursday). For enquiries, please contact the HKCPEC Secretariat at 2398 5449 or 2398 5594.

The HKCPEC was established in March 1990 to co-ordinate Hong Kong's participation in the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC). In line with the nature of the PECC, the composition of the HKCPEC is tripartite, comprising members from the Government, the business sector and academia.

The PECC is a non-governmental organisation set up in 1980 to develop closer co-operation in trade and economic issues among economies in the region. Currently, the PECC has 26 member committees, of which 23 are full members. For details, please visit the PECC's website at www.pecc.org/about/member-committees.
