Hong Kong Immigration Department delegation visits Australia and New Zealand to promote talent admission schemes (with photos)

     University students, professionals and members of the second generation of emigrated Hong Kong residents gained a better understanding of various talent admission schemes administered by the Hong Kong Immigration Department during events with a visiting delegation of the department in Australia and New Zealand between April 29 and May 4.

     The delegation's visit programmes in Auckland in New Zealand and Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney in Australia were arranged with the assistance of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Sydney.

     Led by Assistant Principal Immigration Officer of the Hong Kong Immigration Department Mr Choi Chi-yuen, the delegation held gatherings with members of the local Hong Kong communities in Auckland and Sydney on details of the various talent admission schemes with particular reference to the scheme aimed at attracting the second generation of Chinese Hong Kong permanent residents from overseas to return to Hong Kong to supplement Hong Kong's human capital.

     Talks were held for the delegation to speak with students of the University of Auckland (April 30) in Auckland, the University of Queensland (May 1) in Brisbane, Monash University and the University of Melbourne (May 2) in Melbourne, and four universities (the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and the University of Technology Sydney) in Sydney (May 4) on the eligibility criteria and application procedures of the various admission schemes. Participants who plan to study or work in Hong Kong were presented with information on how Asia's world city is a prosperous place to develop their career. 

     There were also gatherings with young professionals of the Hong Kong–Australia Business Association in Brisbane (May 1), Melbourne (May 2) and Sydney (May 3) on the attractive prospects for professionals and entrepreneurs to work and invest in Hong Kong.

     The delegation gave interviews to the media in these cities to enhance publicity on the Hong Kong Government's efforts to attract talent.
