FS meets Asian Development Bank President in Manila (with photos)

     The Financial Secretary, Mr Paul Chan, today (May 5) met with the President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Chairperson of the ADB's Board of Directors, Mr Takehiko Nakao, during the 51st Annual Meeting of the ADB in Manila, the Philippines.
 
     At the meeting with Mr Nakao, Mr Chan thanked the ADB for its support for the work of the Infrastructure Financing Facilitation Office.
 
     He said that infrastructure development is essential to the continued economic growth of the Asia region. Hong Kong, as an international financial centre and the unique two-way platform connecting the Mainland market and investors with the global market, is well-positioned to become the key services and capital hub for the region to meet the needs of in investment, funding and financing. He looked forward to closer collaboration on project financing between Hong Kong and the ADB.
 
     Afterwards, Mr Chan attended different sessions of the ADB Annual Meeting and its luncheon. He will return to Hong Kong this evening.
 
     The ADB is a multilateral development financial institution of which Hong Kong has been a member since 1960s. It aims to help developing member economies to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life of their people. Currently with over 60 members, the ADB Annual Meeting provides a forum for discussion of economic and social development issues in Asia and the Pacific region.
