Communications Authority press release
**************************************
The following is issued on behalf of the Communications Authority:

This press release summarises the decisions of the Communications Authority (CA) following its 74th meeting held in April 2018:

Cancellation of Hong Kong Mobile Television Network Limited's Unified Carrier Licence and the assignment of frequency spectrum of 678 - 686 MHz for the provision of broadcast-type mobile television services
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CA today (April 30) accepted the application submitted by Hong Kong Mobile Television Network Limited (HKMTV) on March 27, 2018 to surrender its Unified Carrier Licence (UCL) No. 041 and the associated assignment of frequency spectrum of 678 - 686 MHz for the provision of broadcast-type mobile television (Mobile TV) services thereunder to the CA.

Pursuant to section 8(1) of the Telecommunications Ordinance (Cap. 106), no person shall establish or maintain any means of telecommunications in Hong Kong without a relevant licence issued under the Telecommunications Ordinance. With HKMTV's recent confirmation that the provision of Mobile TV services was terminated on March 31, 2018, and that it has now completed the disposal of the radiocommunications installations established and maintained under the relevant UCL, the CA decided that the UCL concerned should be cancelled and the assignment of frequency spectrum of 678 - 686 MHz should be withdrawn with effect from April 30, 2018.
