SFH concludes Beijing visit (with photo)

     The Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Sophia Chan, concluded her visit to Beijing today (April 27).

     Professor Chan met with the Minister of the National Health Commission, Mr Ma Xiaowei, and the Vice Commissioner of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mr Wang Zhiyong. She said, "I would like to thank Mr Ma Xiaowei and Mr Wang Zhiyong for meeting the delegation out of their busy schedule and their support for the work of the Food and Health Bureau (FHB), especially on the development of Chinese medicine and the Chinese medicine hospital.

     "I have had in-depth exchanges with Mainland officials on the work on medical, public health and the development of Chinese medicine. The Special Administrative Region Government will actively co-operate with the National Health Commission's work in relation to the strategy of the Belt and Road Initiative. Moreover, we shall work closely with the health authorities of the Guangdong Province and Macao on how to strengthen co-operation on health aspects in the Bay Area."

     Professor Chan also thanked Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Capital Medical University, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine for their detailed introduction on the development history and operation of the Chinese medicine hospitals in the Mainland. There were in-depth exchanges on the scope of service, mode of management, human resource training and scientific research of Chinese medicine hospitals, which enabled the delegation to achieve fruitful results from the visit.

     Professor Chan added, "The FHB will make use of the information and experience gathered from this duty visit to push forward the development of the first Chinese medicine hospital in a bid to ensure that the services of this hospital will meet the needs of Hong Kong people.

     "Following the deepening of the integration between the two places, the health authorities in the Mainland and Hong Kong will continue to strengthen exchanges and liaisons to continue to improve the public health system and join hands to protect the health of citizens in the two places."

     Professor Chan and the delegation will return to Hong Kong tonight.
