The following is issued on behalf of the Transport Advisory Committee:
 
     The Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) was briefed at a meeting today (April 24) on the Government's proposal to implement various smart mobility initiatives as set out in the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong.
 
     The TAC Chairman, Mr Larry Kwok, said, "Members welcome the Government’s proposal to take forward the smart mobility initiatives set out in the Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong.  Members note that the Transport Department (TD) will enhance the intelligent transport system and traffic management, and continue to open up more traffic data via the department’s mobile applications, websites and the Government’s information portal ‘data.gov.hk’ to facilitate the public to make informed choices on routes and transport modes, as well as for research and innovative applications."
 
     The TD will take forward a number of smart mobility initiatives, such as the development of an "all-in-one" mobile application to facilitate one-stop search for walking, driving, public transport and real-time traffic information, and the installation of additional traffic detectors to cover all strategic routes in Hong Kong by 2020 so as to provide enhanced real-time traffic information for the public.
 
     "In particular, members welcome the TD's feasibility study on in-vehicle units, which will enable motorists to pay tunnel tolls without stopping the vehicles and pay parking fees at government car parks among other functionalities, and note that the TD will proceed to detailed design stage as soon as practicable," Mr Kwok added.
