USFH visits Wong Tai Sin District (with photos)
***********************************************

The Under Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Chui Tak-yi, visited Wong Tai Sin District today (April 23), where he toured Caritas Elderly Centre-Tung Tau. While at the centre he joined elderly exercise classes and chatted with the senior citizens, accompanied by the Chairman of the WTSDC, Mr Li Tak-hong, and the District Officer (Wong Tai Sin), Ms Annie Kong.

Dr Chui learned that the centre enhances the personal health and care awareness of elderly people by organising regular health checks, talks and various types of mutual-help health groups.

Dr Chui said, "These services are in line with the Policy Address's objectives in encouraging members of the public to prevent disease and strengthen personal and home care so as to reduce the need for in-patient hospital services.

"Promoting primary healthcare development is one of the key policies of the Food and Health Bureau. The Steering Committee on Primary Healthcare Development established last year is pushing forward its work at full steam to develop strategies and a blueprint for primary healthcare services.

"The Steering Committee is making preparations for setting up the first district health centre in Kwai Tsaing District in the third quarter of next year. Similar centres will be progressively set up in all 18 districts in view of the experience of the pilot project"

Dr Chui, on behalf of the Secretary for Food and Health, also met with WTSDC members to listen to their views on various medical and environmental hygiene issues.
