Government announces appointments to Committee on Promotion of Organ Donation
*****************************************************************************
The Government has announced the appointment of 10 new members and the re-appointment of seven serving members to the Committee on Promotion of Organ Donation for a term of two years.

Established in April 2016, the Committee is responsible for implementing the Organ Donation Promotion Campaign, which includes formulating the strategy and direction for organ donation promotion, co-ordinating and collaborating with other partners in organising organ donation promotional activities and programmes, and conducting public education.

In addition, the Committee co-ordinates and integrates relevant work by Government departments and organisations to augment public education and publicity, so as to foster and fortify the culture of organ donation.

In June 2016, the Campaign launched the Organ Donation Promotion Charter and invited various organisations in the community to become partners and signatories, thus signifying their support towards promotional activities on organ donation. So far, more than 560 companies, organisations and schools have become signatories of the Charter.

During the period, some 300 various activities, such as promotional booths, talks, campaigns and ceremonies were organised and more than 880 promotional activities, including distributing promotional materials, broadcasting videos of Announcements in the Public Interest and publicising via mobile apps, social media, websites and other internal channels.

The Food and Health Bureau (FHB) expressed its gratitude for the contributions and efforts of the Committee to promote organ donation in the past two years.

The Government will continue to inculcate a culture of organ donation in the community, hoping that the public can accept the concept of donating organs after death to bring new life to other people, a spokesman for the FHB said.
