Hongkong Post to issue commemorative stamps themed "The 150th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department" (with photos)

     Hongkong Post announced today (April 20) the issue of a set of commemorative stamps on the theme "The 150th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department", together with associated philatelic products, on May 8 (Tuesday).
 
     The Hong Kong Fire Services Department (FSD) endeavours to protect the life and property of Hong Kong citizens from fire and other calamities. Living up to its motto, "Serving with Courage, Passion and Commitment", the FSD has won the praise and respect of the general public with its devotion and high standard of service. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the FSD and to highlight its transformation over the years, a set of six commemorative stamps will be issued to showcase the FSD's vehicles past and present from its three main branches, namely firefighting, communications and ambulance services.
 
$2        – a pump escape in the 1950s
$2.60   – a first-generation mobile command unit
$3.40   – an ambulance model in the 1980s
$3.70   – a major pump current model
$4.90   – a mobile command unit current model
$5        – an ambulance current model 
 
     Hongkong Post has applied augmented reality (AR) technology to this stamp theme, creating a more interactive experience in stamp collecting. By scanning the specially designed mint stamps with the "HKPostStamps" mobile app, 3D models of the vehicles on the stamps will be displayed. By rotating the vehicles and it is possible to view them from different angles by swiping a finger on the screen. Tap on the accompanying buttons for more information on each stamp, or to view the 360-degree images that reveal the inside of some vehicles. The app is educational in other ways too, even answering questions about fire safety.
 
     The updated version of the mobile app "HKPostStamps" can be downloaded from the App Store (for iOS devices), the Play Store (for Android devices), or the Hongkong Post Stamps website (www.hongkongpoststamps.hk) from May 8 onwards. This mobile app also provides quick access to online shopping via "ShopThruPost" (www.shopthrupost.hk), enabling you to purchase Hongkong Post’s philatelic products anytime and anywhere.
 
     Official first day covers each at $1.30 will be put on sale at all post offices from April 23. The stamps and associated philatelic products will be displayed at the General Post Office, Tsim Sha Tsui Post Office, Tsuen Wan Post Office, Sha Tin Central Post Office and Tuen Mun Central Post Office from the same day. Advance orders for servicing self-provided covers will be accepted at all philatelic offices from April 23 to 28.
