The launching ceremony of the BHUA was held in HKUST this afternoon. The Minister of Education, Mr Chen Baosheng, and the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, witnessed the establishment of the alliance among higher education institutions of Beijing and Hong Kong.
"The Education Bureau has been very supportive of the strengthening of collaboration among Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas universities. Officially launched in late 2016, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance has taken forward various collaborations such as the co-operation agreement of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Library Alliance signed in June last year. The agreement has facilitated collaboration and exchanges, as well as sharing of resources, among the libraries of the leading universities of the three regions. The launch of the BHUA would further promote exchanges on academic and research fronts between universities of Beijing and Hong Kong," Mr Yeung said.
"I trust that by bringing together the leading universities of Beijing and Hong Kong, the BHUA would create synergy and reinforce complementarity in nurturing talents and scientific research and achieve mutual benefits. Hong Kong's higher education sector is internationally renowned for its academic and research excellence in many areas. I am confident that our local universities would scale new heights through collaboration with top-notch universities of the Mainland."
Prior to the launching ceremony of the BHUA, Mr Yeung accompanied Mr Chen on a visit to Po Leung Kuk Wong Wing Shu Primary School, where they learned how the school fulfilled its vision of realising students' potential through multifaceted learning and extracurricular activities.
Mr Chen said the Ministry of Education would present local primary schools each with 10 sets of books, totalling some 5,000 sets, covering Chinese history, geography, scientific knowledge and literary classics as a token of the Ministry's support and care for Hong Kong's education and young students. Mr Yeung expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education. The sets of books will be delivered to Hong Kong later.
