HK Youth Symphonic Band and Music Office alumni jointly perform to celebrate band's 40th anniversary
******************************************************************************************
The Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Band (HKYSB) of the Music Office (MO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, together with five notable MO alumni, will showcase an array of wonderful works at the band's 40th Anniversary Concert, entitled "Kin-Shitsu", to be held at 7.30pm on May 13 (Sunday) in the Concert Hall of Hong Kong City Hall.

Under the batons of MO instructors Pak Wing-heng and Chan Pui-ling, the HKYSB and the five alumni will perform a diverse band repertoire including Barnes' "Danza Sinfonica" with a taste of classic Spanish flamenco. The four alumni - professional hornists Hermann Paw, Benny Kwan, Homer Lee and Chow Chi-chung - will also perform Hübler's "Concerto for Four Horns and Windband" (arranged by Gnos) as soloists.

The Band will make its debut playing Grieg's "Piano Concerto in A minor, 1st movement" (arranged by Oliver) in collaboration with another alumnus - professional pianist Carol Yu. The concert will conclude with two entrancing pieces by Japanese composers Kiyoshige Koyama's "Kin-Shitsu" and Shoichi Kaneko's "Farewell for Today" (arranged by Masanori Taruya).

The HKYSB was formed in 1978 with the aim of nurturing young musicians and arousing greater interest in band music in Hong Kong. The band currently has 80 members aged 12 to 25 and recruits annually by open audition. It has performed in Hong Kong and overseas, winning much acclaim.
