The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, visited the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA) today (April 11) and met with its management and front-line staff to learn more about their work and enhance mutual communication.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Thomas Chow, Mr Law met with the Head of the WFSFAA, Mr Esmond Lee, and the directorate staff and was briefed on the department's work in providing financial assistance to needy families and students in Hong Kong through various schemes.

Mr Law then proceeded to the Counter Service Unit of the Student Finance Office where he learnt about the daily work of front-line staff, including handling and vetting application forms and supporting documents for student financial assistance schemes, and providing enquiry services for the public.

Mr Law also visited the Funded Programmes Students Section. He was pleased to note the smooth processing of student financial assistance applications for the 2017/18 academic year, with subsidies already disbursed to more than 20 000 needy full-time tertiary students pursuing publicly funded programmes.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Law met with staff representatives of various grades at a tea gathering to exchange views on matters that concerned them. He expressed appreciation for colleagues' efforts and encouraged them to continue to provide appropriate support and services to members of the public who are in need.
