SLW visits Wong Tai Sin District (with photos)
**********************************************

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Dr Law Chi-kwong, visited Wong Tai Sin District today (April 10), where he called at a primary school and an employee training body and met with District Council members. The Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Caspar Tsui, also joined the visit.

Accompanied by the Chairman of Wong Tai Sin District Council (WTSDC), Mr Li Tak-hong, and the District Officer (Wong Tai Sin), Ms Annie Kong, Dr Law first went to Canossa Primary School (San Po Kong). He toured the diverse campus facilities and chatted with teachers and students. He said he was glad to note that the school nurtures positive values and attitudes among students by encouraging them to do voluntary service, and is committed to introducing elements of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education in learning and teaching activities.

Dr Law then proceeded to the Human Resources Training Centre of Hong Kong Employment Development Service in Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate, which provides employment counselling, job matching, training and retraining services for those with employment difficulties. He observed and chatted with trainees attending courses on healthcare, elderly care and baking.

He said that additional resources have been allocated to the Labour Department and the Social Welfare Department in the Budget to enhance employment support for job seekers with special employment needs, including elderly job seekers wishing to rejoin the workforce, young school leavers and persons with disabilities. He added that training bodies at district level have an important role to play at this front. The Government will work closely with non-governmental organisations to improve service quality and cater for the needs of different job seekers.

Before concluding his visit, Dr Law visited WTSDC and met with members to learn more about the latest developments and issues of concern in the district and exchange views on district matters.
