Government very concerned about occurrence at Shek Kong Stabling Sidings of Hong Kong Section of Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link
***************************************************************

A spokesperson for the Transport and Housing Bureau today (April 4) said the Government is very concerned about the occurrence last night (April 3) in which some wheels of a high-speed train stabled at the Shek Kong Stabling Sidings of the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link (XRL) shifted out of position.

The spokesperson emphasised that safety is the top priority in any railway operation. Upon receiving notification from the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL) last night, the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) immediately requested the MTRCL to conduct a thorough investigation and to submit a report as soon as possible with a view to ascertaining the cause of the occurrence and implementing corresponding remedial measures for prevention of future recurrence, such that the XRL trial operation schedule would not be affected. Before commissioning of the XRL in September 2018, the EMSD will verify whether the MTRCL has properly completed all railway safety-related tests, and will also conduct on-site tests to ensure safe operations before approving the operation of the trains.
