SCMA visits Kwun Tong (with photos)
***********************************
Mr Nip took the opportunity to revisit Ping Shek Housing Estate, where he formerly lived, to reminisce about his childhood days. He also met some former neighbours and chatted with them.
Mr Nip visited a social service centre in the estate operated by the Windshield Charitable Foundation. Committed to serving the underprivileged, the centre offers a wide range of services to new arrivals and their families to facilitate their integration into the community and to unleash their potential.
He was briefed by representatives of the Windshield Charitable Foundation on the service scope and daily operation of the centre, such as organising courses for new arrival children and motivating service recipients to take up volunteer work to exemplify the spirit of self-help, mutual help and helping others. He also joined an activity organised for new arrival families to celebrate Easter.
Mr Nip then visited Buddhist Chi King Primary School and met with students who joined the 333 Learning Companion Leadership Program organised by the We R Family Foundation. The programme provides after-school tutorial classes, value-added courses and professional supporting services for children from grass-roots families with a view to cultivating in them a sense of responsibility, self-confidence and a proactive learning attitude.
In an exchange session with students, Mr Nip encouraged them to devote themselves to study and actively participate in activities. He also said he hoped that they could apply what they learnt and render assistance to other students.
Mr Nip then met with members of the KTDC and exchanged views on district and community issues.
