Young cellist Xu Ting to perform in May

     Talented young cellist Xu Ting will give a recital in May. Entitled "Our Music Talents Series: Cello Recital by Xu Ting", the performance is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

     The programme will include Debussy's Sonata for Cello and Piano in D Minor, Cassado's Suite for Cello Solo, Stravinsky's Suite Italienne, Britten's Sonata for Cello and Piano in C, Op 65.

     Xu graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) and was awarded a first-class honours bachelor's degree in 2015. She then completed her master's degree (with distinction) under the tutelage of Ray Wang at the HKAPA in 2017. Xu has also participated in masterclasses conducted by Yo-Yo Ma, David Geringas, Steven Isserlis, David Finckel, Wen-Sinn Yang and Sadao Harada.
 
     Xu has won various competitions including the HKAPA Concerto Competition, first prize at the Beijing Great Wall International Music Festival Concerto Competition, second prize at the Cross-Strait Cello Competition for Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan – Youth Section, and a special prize at the 6th National Cello Competition in China. As a rising young talent, she appeared as soloist with the HKAPA Symphony Orchestra and the Beijing Radio Symphony Orchestra, and made her Hong Kong premiere performing the Samuel Barber Cello Concerto with the HKAPA Symphony Orchestra in November 2015. She also appeared at the Music Festival of the McGill International String Quartet Academy in Montreal, Canada as well as at the famous Aspen Music Festival in the United States. Xu now teaches at the HKAPA.
 
     "Our Music Talents Series: Cello Recital by Xu Ting" will be staged at 8pm on May 4 (Friday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall.
