SCED to lead business and professional delegation to visit Cambodia and Vietnam

The trade and professional mission aims to enhance bilateral relations with and expand business networks at the two countries, and to identify and explore opportunities brought by the Belt and Road Initiative. Both Cambodia and Vietnam are emerging markets in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, one of the fastest-growing regions in the world.
"The mission is the first of its kind to Southeast Asia since we signed a free trade agreement (FTA) and a related investment agreement with ASEAN. It will enable our delegation, comprising entrepreneurs and professionals from sectors including commerce and industry, accounting and finance, legal and dispute resolution services, startups and others, to showcase our strengths, get first-hand information on the local business environment and open up collaboration opportunities," Mr Yau said.
The delegation will first visit Phnom Penh in Cambodia on March 19 and 20 and then proceed to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam from March 21 to 23. They will meet with local business leaders and representatives of government authorities overseeing industry, investment and trade promotion, in addition to visiting local factories and industrial parks.
The HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council will co-organise business luncheon seminars with the Hong Kong Business Association of Cambodia in Phnom Penh and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ho Chi Minh City respectively. Mr Yau will deliver keynote speeches and the delegates will be able to have exchanges with local business sectors.
In Cambodia and Vietnam, Mr Yau will also take the opportunity to meet with local government officials and the Chinese Ambassadors to deepen relationships with both countries at government level.
Mr Yau will return to Hong Kong in the evening on March 23. The Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Dr Bernard Chan, will be the Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development during Mr Yau's absence.
