Government to pay examination fees for school candidates sitting for 2019 HKDSE Examination
******************************************************************************************
The Government announced today (March 17) the adjusted arrangements for paying the examination fees for candidates sitting for the 2019 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination announced in the 2018-19 Budget.

Having considered various factors and detailed discussions with the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA), the Government has decided to set the scope of application for the measure to school candidates sitting for the 2019 HKDSE Examination only. The candidates must be studying at the registered schools approved for participation in the 2019 HKDSE Examination and to be entered for the 2019 HKDSE Examination through their schools (including first-time candidates and candidates who repeat the senior secondary curriculum in day schools and evening schools).

The Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, said "The prime principle is the interests of candidates sitting for the 2019 HKDSE Examination when finalising the arrangements. We have to ensure that they can take the examination at ease without being disturbed unnecessarily."

Mr Yeung added that the adjusted arrangements could effectively eliminate the situations where someone might enter for the examination for "fun" because of free examination fees or intentionally disturb the order at the examination venues. It is believed that the arrangements can remove the worries of candidates and parents.

The HKEAA will notify schools about the details of registration for the 2019 HKDSE Examination in due course, and timely upload the "Instructions to Applicants" and related details onto its website according to the prevailing practice.
