Open fire case in Sha Tin

     Police are investigating an open fire case in which three police officers were injured in Sha Tin this morning (March 15).

     At about 5.30am, Police received a report that a drunk man disputed with his mother inside a unit in Mau Lam House, Kwong Lam Court, Sha Tin. Police officers sped to the scene. The man was emotional and assaulted police officers. Officers tried to restrain the man but he put up a fierce struggle. During which, the man snatched a revolver from a male police constable and fired three shots. The man was immediately subdued by other police officers.

     The 30-year-old man was arrested for assaulting police officer and wounding (shooting with intent). The arrested person sustained abrasion to hands and legs. He was treated at Prince of Wales Hospital and will be detained overnight for investigation.

     A male police constable sustained gunshots to his right elbow, right thigh and right calf. He was sent to the same hospital in conscious state. He has undergone operation and is now in stable condition. Two other male police constables sustained abrasions to hands and legs. Both of them were discharged after receiving medical treatment.

     Investigation by the Regional Crime Unit of New Territories South is under way.
