Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases at North District Hospital

The spokesperson for North District Hospital (NDH) made the following update today (March 12) regarding an earlier announcement on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in a male medical ward:
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed contact tracing and confirmed one more 66-year-old patient as a VRE carrier without clinical symptoms. He is under isolation with stable condition.
NDH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the wards. The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
