Update on cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci cases at North District Hospital

Regarding the announcement yesterday (March 6) on a cluster of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci (VRE) carriers in male medical wards, the spokesperson for North District Hospital (NDH) gave the following update today (March 7):
In accordance with the prevailing infection control guidelines, the hospital has performed contact tracing and confirmed five more patients (aged 79 to 94) as VRE carriers without clinical symptoms. All of them are under isolation with stable condition.
NDH will continue the enhanced infection control measures and closely monitor the situation of the wards. The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow-up.
