More than 900 musicians to perform all-time favourites from East and West in Joint Concerts of Music Office Bands and Orchestras

     More than 900 young musicians from 13 bands and orchestras will perform an array of Chinese and Western pieces at four joint concerts to be presented by the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in April and May.

     The first concert, which will feature string orchestras, the Kowloon Youth Strings, the Island Youth Strings and the New Territories Youth Strings, will be held at 3pm on April 5 (Thursday) at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall. The musicians will showcase the classics including Holst's "St Paul's Suite", Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet Overture" and Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No. 6".

     The second concert, which will feature junior groups, will be held at 3pm on April 21 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Tsuen Wan Town Hall. The performing groups will be the Hong Kong Junior Chamber Ensemble, the Music Office Junior Chinese Orchestra and the Hong Kong Children's Symphonic Band. The groups will present a concert programme from East to West including "Selections from The Lion King", Peng Xiuwen's "Suite of a Fishing Village" and movie soundtrack hits of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story".

     The third concert, which will feature three bands, the Music Office Youth Brass Band, the Kowloon Youth Symphonic Band and the New Territories Youth Symphonic Band, will be held at 3pm on April 22 (Sunday) at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall. The musicians will perform an array of colourful and imaginative pieces including "Gold Rush" by Shin'ya Takahashi, "One-Winged Angel" by Nobuo Uematsu and "Tips on Stir-Fried Rice" by Hirokazu Fukushima.

     The fourth concert, which will feature Chinese orchestras, will be held at 8pm on May 26 (Saturday) at the Auditorium of Yuen Long Theatre. The performing groups will be the Music Office Children's Chinese Orchestra, the Kowloon Youth Chinese Orchestra, the New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra and the Island Youth Chinese Orchestra. The groups will present a delightful Chinese orchestral repertoire, with programme highlights including "Celebration Overture" and "Macao Impressions" by Zhao Jiping, "The General's Command" by Gu Guanren and "Flame-red Flowers in Full Bloom" by Xu Jingxin.
