While most households are busily preparing for the Chinese New Year, members of the Housing Department Volunteers Corps are showing that they have the elderly in their hearts by paying visits to elderly tenants.

The Chairman of the Volunteers Corps cum Assistant Director (Legal Service) of Housing Department, Mrs Kitty Yan, said today (February 12), "Under the guidance of a tutor, we made festive rice cakes in the shape of golden carp last Saturday (February 10) morning and distributed them to elderly tenants that afternoon.

"Members of the Volunteers Corps visited 50 elderly tenants living at Ming Tak Estate, Tseung Kwan O. We presented each elderly tenant with a lucky bag containing fai chuns, festive rice cakes and new year decorations made of red packets, all handmade by volunteers. And more importantly, we shared with the elders our love and care for them," said Mrs Yan.

"The elderly tenants were cheered by our visit. Apart from the joy brought by these festive gifts, they also felt the warmth and care of the volunteers," Mrs Yan added.

The Volunteers Corps, which was established over 20 years ago, cares about elderly tenants residing in public rental housing. Members of the Volunteers Corps usually visit the elderly or organise celebratory activities for them during major festivals.
