The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joshua Law, today (February 9) visited the Fire Services Department (FSD) and met with front-line staff and representatives of the staff associations to better understand their work and matters that concerned them.

Accompanied by the Director of Fire Services, Mr Li Kin-yat, Mr Law first visited Tsim Tung Fire Station, where the personal protective equipment of a fireman was introduced to him. He was also briefed by members of the High Angle Rescue Team and the Hazardous Materials Team on their work, equipment and training.

Mr Law then toured the FSD's Mobile Command Unit. The FSD has five Mobile Command Units, which serve as on-scene command and control centres in major incidents.

Mr Law was also briefed by ambulance staff on the handling of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest cases. He said he was pleased to learn that the FSD has enhanced the resuscitation procedures to increase the survival rate of patients.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Law had a tea gathering with representatives of the staff associations at the Fire Services Headquarters Building to listen to their concerns and exchange views. He said he fully recognised the efforts and contributions of FSD staff in safeguarding lives and property of the public, and encouraged them to continue to keep up their enthusiasm in saving those in distress and protecting the community.
