SED on early Chinese New Year holidays for kindergartens and primary schools
***************************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Kevin Yeung, at a media session after attending a naming ceremony for the school hall of Lam Tai Fai College today (February 8):

Reporter: Shouldn't schools have been given more time or advance notice about their early holidays for school kids? I mean, shouldn't the Education Bureau be providing even more support for such a rushed decision?

Secretary for Education: As I said, the decision was made at a meeting yesterday morning. We were then doing a lot of preparation work, and our announcement was made at around 10.30 yesterday morning. So we are trying to provide as much information as possible to the schools. I know that it would be better if we could give more time for the schools to prepare. But when we are talking about the health of our students, we have to implement these measures as soon as possible.
